The New York Wall Co., custom pressurized partition system

“Our Walls Are Under Pressure So You Don’t Have To Be”©

FAQ’s

These are the questions that come up most often about the pressurized partition system, answered in full.

What do the walls look like?
The wall partitions are 4½″ thick, which is the same as most walls in apartment buildings. The only difference is that, like all temporary partitions and room dividers, ours are designed to be both easily installed and removed by us. To accomplish this cleanly and efficiently we do not tape and plaster the seams of our walls, or where they come into contact with the existing permanent walls. Instead the seams and edges are covered with moldings, which gives our walls their own distinct and finished look.
Can I buy a wall?
No, the wall partitions are only leased. There are two reasons. First, because the walls are reusable, they can be offered at a much lower price than if they were sold outright. Second, leasing gives management companies and landlords peace of mind: they have the assurance that we are responsible from installation to the end of the tenancy and the timely, careful removal of our property from their premises.
How long can I lease a wall for?
As long as you want. The wall partitions are leased in three-year increments.
What if I need more than just a straight wall?
Because the partitions are customized, almost any configuration can be accommodated.
My ceiling seems very high. Can you go higher than the standard eight foot ceiling?
Yes. Ceiling heights of up to thirteen feet can be accommodated.
Will I need an onsite estimate?
Generally not. Our extensive database is continually updated, and chances are we already have information for your building on file.
What if I have an unusual design in mind?
If the design cannot be understood by description alone, a floor plan provided by your building will help. Some situations will require an onsite estimate. Our sales representatives are here to advise, and where an onsite estimate is required there is no charge for it.
What if the design I want means the wall would have to split an HVAC unit in half?
Not a problem. A specially designed access door allows easy access and servicing of the HVAC unit without having to remove the wall partition.
I would need to go up into a window. Can this be done?
Yes, under most conditions. A sales representative can advise on this.
What if my building has a small elevator, or no elevator at all?
Height is usually never an issue, although there are some elevators that may not be wide enough. Whether the elevator is small or absent altogether it is not a problem, as the materials can be walked up. There is an additional cost for this service.
What color are the walls?
We stock the three most widely used colors in New York City apartments, and we will match the color of your existing walls as closely as possible using these colors.
What if I want to paint another color?
If you think another color would enhance your décor, feel free to be creative. All that we ask is that you don’t paint the door, doorframes or door moldings, or the windows, window frames or window moldings.
Can I hang anything I want on the wall?
You can hang pictures as long as they weigh no more than thirty pounds each. The partitions are not designed to handle the weight of shelving.
Do the doors come with locks?
No, this is considered a fire hazard. We are extremely careful not to endanger anyone using temporary partitions. The material used in the wall partitions is fire coded, and we are very careful concerning fire egresses and proper air circulation.
I will be home on the day the movers come. Can I have my wall installation the same day?
This is not a good idea for anyone concerned. Everyone is sure to be in each other’s way, wasting precious time and causing havoc with your schedule as well as ours. Moving is stressful enough. Take it one step at a time.
How do I get started?
First contact your building and secure permission. Find out whether they have any special requirements or need an insurance certificate. If you have furniture near the area where the partition will stand, you will need to clear three feet on each side so that the installers have room to work.

Please note that all of our work is guaranteed and that we are fully insured. We are also licensed by the New York City Department of Consumer Affairs.
